Whāia te mātauranga hei oranga mō koutou; mō tātou katoa hoki
Seek after learning for the sake of your wellbeing and the wellbeing of us all.
This whakataukī refers to the importance of learning, for it is key to wellbeing.

The Leadership Through Learning programme is a free leadership and development programme for any Māori and Pacific student at the University of Auckland, across all levels of studies, faculties and disciplines. The programme offers a culturally safe space, where we build a community of student leaders seeking to “Lead, Empower and Transform”.

City and Grafton Campus

Leadership Through Learning runs as a 12-week programme during Semester 1 and then Semester 2.  It includes a weekly 1 hour tutorial, a full day Wānanga in the mid-semester break, and wraps up with a Vision Board presentation at the end of the programme.

In the words of our alumni

“I realized that when you know exactly what you want, you're more motivated. The vision board empowered me to remember that I can, as well as everyone else, make a meaningful contribution to the lives of those around me."

“Leadership Through Learning taught me that I do have a voice in the academic sphere and in the wider community. A number of opportunities at the university and outside opened up when I applied what I learned at Leadership Through Learning to my everyday life.”

“I have learnt that it is better to think, how can we get there together? I know now that we can make a difference in the world when we start to lift those around us and carry it on like a domino effect.”
