Request items from the Catalogue

How to request items from the Catalogue

You can request books and collect them from any of our libraries. You can also request book chapters and journal articles and have them emailed to you.

  1. Sign in to the Catalogue.
  2. Find the item you want.
  3. Click the title to see the request options.
  4. Click Request Item if you want a book.
  5. Click Digitize Part if you want a chapter or article to be scanned and emailed to you.
  6. Enter the date required if you have a deadline.
  7. Click Send request.
  8. We will email you when your item is available.

When you request a book someone else has borrowed

You can request books that are already on loan. These will have an On loan status in the Catalogue.

  • Allow up to 6 days for a requested item to be returned.
  • To check the status of your request, use My Library Account.
  • We will send a notice to your student email address when the item is available and indicate the date by which you need to collect it.

When a book is recalled from you

When someone requests one of your library books, you may have to return it earlier. You are guaranteed a minimum loan of 5 days.

  • We will send a due date change and recall notice to your student email address.
  • Please return the requested book by the new date, which overrides the original due date.
  • Your borrowing privileges may be suspended if you do not return a requested item by the new due date.

Newmarket Campus

If you are based at the Newmarket Campus, you may request that books are sent to the Newmarket Campus for pick up.

Request

Request items in the Catalogue and choose Newmarket as the Pickup Location.

Delivery

  • Items are delivered to the Newmarket campus twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays after 12pm.
  • If you require items urgently, please visit the General Library in person.
  • Items will be issued to your library account before leaving the General Library, and due dates will be available on the slip that you will find in the front of the book. Additionally, due dates are available in My Library Account.
  • Short loan items are not available using this service.

Returns

  • Return items to the blue delivery crate situated by the departmental cubbyholes located adjacent to reception in Building 902, level 3 before 12pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays to ensure they are returned to the City Campus that same day. You can return items using this service even if you did not request them using this service.
  • You can also return items in person to the Philson Library on the Grafton Campus.

Click and Deliver

The Click and Deliver service supports students and staff who are unable to collect books from our libraries for an extended time.

Eligibility

You may qualify for the service if you are unable to come to the library for one of these reasons:

  • You are enrolled in courses delivered flexibly.
  • You have a permanent or temporary disability.
  • Your primary location of study or work is outside the Auckland region.

If none of these are relevant and you have other barriers to accessing our physical collections, you may still be eligible. When applying, tell us about your situation. We assess each application on a case-by-case basis.

Apply

Please complete this application form. We will review your application and respond within two business days.

Request

When your registration is confirmed, you can start requesting books from our libraries. Choose Home Address as your pickup location to get the book delivered to you.

Some items may not be available for Click and Deliver. You can request scans of chapters and articles by using the Digitize Part option in the catalogue.

  • You can request one article per journal issue and one chapter per book.
  • Items are to be used for study, research or teaching purposes only.

Delivery

Books are couriered to the address you gave us in your registration. You are responsible for arranging and paying for the return of items.

Articles and chapters will be scanned and emailed to you.

Return

Please renew or return books by the due date to avoid suspension of your borrowing privileges.

What happens when you have overdue, lost or damaged items

If someone requests a book that you have borrowed, you may have to return it before the original due date. We will email a recall notice with the new date that the recalled book is due.

Check due dates and renew loans through My Library Account.

How to return

You can return books to any of our libraries in person.

You can also return books by post using the return address label provided.

If you are returning a book that has been recalled, we recommend you return it by courier.
