A 100 million word, 2000 document keyword-searchable collection of 1990s British language. Around 800 of the documents are spoken texts. Each word has been tagged with SGML code for its part of speech. Go to Part-of-speech codes in the Help index to see a full list of codes.

A simple search is available from the BNC homepage. This search gives frequencies and up to 50 examples.

Access

There are several ways to access the BNC. You can access it via either the first Connect button (locally hosted) or the OTA connect button which will take you to the free copy at the University of Oxford Text Archive.
