The State Trials contain the majority of Britain's most celebrated trials from 1163-1858. Although primarily concerned with offenses against the state, the compilers of the original volumes included notorious trials for witchcraft, bigamy, and murder, as well as peerage claims and special proceedings and investigations. The result is a diverse, comprehensive and intriguing collection giving a valuable account if the development of the British legal system and its constitutional history.
