This collection consists of unique, hand-made or limited edition books, predominantly created by past and present students and staff of the Elam School of Fine Arts. The collection also contains works by other New Zealand and international book artists.

The Special Collection sequence is comprised of rare, precious or unique art books and periodicals. It also includes a number of valuable Photobooks.

The archive holds a growing sequence of material relating mainly to the activities of Elam students, staff, and the wider Auckland art scene. Notable holdings include the Thomas Gulliver Quoin Club collection, the Snaps Gallery records, and the Paul Beadle papers.

The Fine Arts Library houses a growing collection of New Zealand art-related ephemera. It currently includes over 350 Gallery Files, and over 1,500 individual Artist’s Files.
