Ocean Biogeographic Information System A significant amount of biogeographic data is available for taxa at different depths around the world from the global Ocean Biogeographic System (OBIS) which is lead by Dr Mark Costello at the Leigh Marine Station. The University of Auckland contains the IUCN Invasive Species Specialist Group (ISSG) and the Chair of the Ocean Biogeographic Information System.

CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research The CSIRO Division of Marine Research became fully operational on 1st February 1997. Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University Hopkins Marine Station is a marine biology research facility that operates as a branch of Stanford University's Department of Biological Sciences. The Station is located in Pacific Grove, on the Monterey Peninsula, which forms the Southern shore of Monterey Bay. It lies in a region of scenic beauty and historic interest, 90 miles south of Stanfordıs main campus in Palo Alto.
Integrative Oceanography Division (IOD), Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) Formed by the merger of the Center for Coastal Studies (CCS) and the Marine Life Research Group (MLRG), the IOD "encompasses field work, laboratory experimentation and computer modeling to acquire, integrate, synthesize and understand diverse data sets to elucidate the underlying dynamics of complex, multidimensional ocean systems."
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) was set up by UNESCO in 1960 to develop, recommend and coordinate international programmes for scientific investigation of the oceans and to provide related ocean services to Member States.
International Center for Living Aquatic Resources Management (ICLARM) Now known as the WorldFish Center, an autonomous, nongovernmental, nonprofit, international scientific and technical organization which has been established to conduct, stimulate and accelerate research on all aspects of fisheries and other living aquatic resources.
International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) The oldest intergovernmental organisation in the world concerned with marine and fisheries science. Since its establishment in Copenhagen in 1902, ICES has been a leading scientific forum for the exchange of information and ideas on the sea and its living resources, and for the promotion and coordination of marine research by scientists within its member countries.
Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom (MBA) A professional body for marine biologists with some 1200 members world-wide.
Marine Biological Laboratories Situated at Woods Hole, Massachusetts. Global ecosystems research on diverse environments addressing large environmental issues. Maintains year-round research programs in cell and developmental biology, ecology, neurobiology, sensory physiology, microbiology, marine biomedicine, and molecular evolution. Hosts a summer population of 800 scientists and advanced students. Offers intensive summer courses for graduate and post-graduate students.
Marine Science Institute, University of California MSI was established as an Organized Research Unit (ORU) in 1969 and administers and supports research projects involving faculty, professional researchers, technical staff, graduate students, and undergraduate students from 14 disciplines. Much of the research activity focuses on the resources of the California Coast, although an increasing amount of effort is being directed toward an understanding of the world's oceans. Marine activities in the biological and geological sciences presently predominate, but there is increasing involvement of researchers from other disciplines, including chemical oceanography.
Marine Science Research Centre, University at Stony Brook The Marine Sciences Research Center (MSRC) is the center for research, graduate education, and public service in the marine sciences for the entire State University of New York system. It offers the only SUNY graduate degree programs in coastal oceanography and marine environmental sciences. MSRC has programs of research in biological, chemical, geological, and physical oceanography; coastal zone management; fishery management; and atmospheric sciences. MSRC scientists have a strong commitment to translate the results of research into forms readily usable for management and, when possible, into solutions to environmental problems. Emphasis in the research, educational, and public service programs is on the coastal ocean.

Ocean Research Institute, Tokyo University The ORI consists of 16 Research Divisions, the Center for International Cooperation, both on the Nakano Campus, Tokyo, and the Otsuchi Marine Research Center located in Otsuchi, Iwate Prefecture.
Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory The Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) carries out interdisciplinary scientific investigations in oceanography, marine meteorology, and related subjects. PMEL programs focus on coastal and open ocean observations and modeling to improve our understanding of the physical and geochemical processes operating in the world oceans, to define the forcing functions and the processes driving ocean circulation and the global climate system, and to improve environmental forecasting capabilities and other supporting services for marine commerce and fisheries.

Plymouth Marine Laboratory Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML) is part of the Centre of Coastal and Marine Sciences (CCMS), which also includes two other sister Laboratories, Proudman Oceanographic Laboratory (POL) and Dunstaffnage Marine Laboratory (DML). Plymouth Marine Laboratory exists to undertake high quality research on questions which involve the science of the sea.
Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science The Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, founded by F.G. Walton Smith, is the University of Miami's graduate school of marine and atmospheric science. Rosenstiel's research interests include satellite oceanography, with particular emphasis on remote sensing and satellite imagery, an experimental fish Hatchery, a leading global marine and atmospheric chemistry program, comprehensive oceanic and atmospheric numerical modeling activities, sedimentary geology and marine geophysics groups with considerable expertise in seismic methods, and an innovative ocean acoustics program.
Scripps Institution of Oceanography For more than ninety years, scientists at Scripps have conducted a continuous search on the seas and in the laboratory for knowledge about the marine environment. The scientific scope of the institution has grown to include physical, chemical, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans as well as biological research. More than 300 research programs are under way today in a wide range of scientific areas, including studies of global warming and long-term climate change, the marine food chain, earthquake prediction, pharmaceuticals from sea life, and coastal ocean processes.
SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department AQD or the Aquaculture Department is one of the four departments under SEAFDEC or the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center, a regional treaty organization established in 1967 to promote fisheries development in Southeast Asia.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is a private, independent, not-for-profit corporation dedicated to research and higher education at the frontiers of ocean science. Its primary mission is to develop and effectively communicate a fundamental understanding of the processes and characteristics governing how the oceans function and how they interact with the Earth as a whole.
