ECE Databases

  1. IEEExplore (1988 - current, some from 1950, updated daily)
    Full-text of all IEEE and IEE transactions, journal articles, conference papers, and all current IEEE standards. For more information, please see  the Helpsheet on the IEEE Xplore connect page.

  2. INSPEC (1969-, updated monthly)
    Indexes & abstracts over 4200 journals & 2000 conference proceedings as well as books, reports & dissertations in the areas of Electrical Engineering & Electronics, Computers & Control, Information Technology, & Physics. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  3. Compendex (1884-, updated weekly)
    The most important database for engineering, it indexes & abstracts over 5000 journals, conference proceedings & reports. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  4. Scopus (1966-)
    Covers the citations, abstracts and references of articles from over 14,000 scientific publications.

  5. SpringerLink 
    Gives full-text access to over 1800 journals published by Springer, Birkhauser, Karger, and others. It also give full-text access to some 10,000 books. Apart from complete coverage from 1997 onwards of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science  most books are only available full-text after 2004.  

  6. Web of Science (1980-, updated weekly)
    Consists of Science Citation Index, Social Sciences Citation Index & Arts & Humanities Citation Index. It functions as a multidisciplinary database of bibliographic information, but its primary use is searching for articles that cite a known author or work.   7. Academic Search Premier
    A scholarly, interdisciplinary database indexing more than 8,000 journals. Provides full text for more than 4,500 publications, including more than 3,700 peer-reviewed publications. This database also tracks the number of times an article has been cited in articles indexed in Academic Search Premier.

  8. Current Contents (1998-, updated daily)
    Indexes about 8,500 scholarly journals & 2000 books. It includes over 1,110 journals & books on Engineering, Computing & Technology. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  9. Expanded Academic
    This database meets research needs across all academic disciplines and incorporates many interdisciplinary journals, national news magazines and The New York Times. It has over 3000 indexed titles, with over 2000 publications available in fulltext.

  10. Scitopia
    It was created through the imagination and collaboration of 21 leading science and technology societies. More than 3.5 million documents, including peer-reviewed journal content and technical conference papers, plus patents and government data, spanning 350 years of science and technology can be searched through the site.

  11. ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (1861- , 1996- most full-text)
    Covers doctoral dissertations & masters’ theses from over 1000 accredited colleges & universities worldwide. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  12. Derwent Innovations Index (1963-)
    A searchable online database on the Web of Knowledge platform, providing worldwide patent information, with English language abstracts. Derwent covers over 11 million inventions from 42 patent-issuing authorities and can be searched via text or chemical structures.

  13. New Zealand Standards Online A searchable online collection of all Standards New Zealand and AS/SNZ standards, compiled by IHS Australia. The documents are in PDF format and can be printed and downloaded.

  14. ENGINE - Australian Engineering Database (1980-)
    By the Institution of Engineers Australia and is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts published and unpublished material on Australian engineering information, particularly information published by the Institution since 1980.

  15. Energy Citations Database (1948 -)
    Provides free public access to citations and full text of reports, conference papers, journal articles, books, dissertations, & patents for energy & energy-related scientific & technical information from the Department of Energy (DOE) & its predecessor agencies, the Energy Research & Development Administration (ERDA) & the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC).

  16. ACM Digital Library (1991- full-text, 1985- abstracts)
    Covers articles published in Association for Computing Machinery journals, magazines & conference proceedings.

  17. Computer Database ( current year + previous 3 years)
    Full-text for computer-related articles from news-st& & trade publications, covering all aspects of the computer, peripherals, software, semiconductor, communications & telecommunications industries.

  18. CIA - Computer Index Australasia (2001-)
    Indexes a range of popular journals and general interest computing and communications periodicals relevant to the home user and to secondary and tertiary students.

  19. Computing Reviews (11 year backfile)
    Provides reviews of computing literature from articles, books, proceedings papers, conference proceedings, & whole journals prepared by experts in their fields.

  20. ProQuest Computing (1986-, updated daily)
    Mostly full-text. Covers a selection of computing journals in the science, business & finance subject areas, includes product reviews, & articles on topics of interest to the business community.

  21. Telecommunications (1986-, updated daily)
    A full-text / citation database covering the latest information that is published in top telecommunications industry publications. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  22. Gartner Group Intraweb (13 month research archive, updated weekly.)
    Covers market research reports on trends in the IT industry, available technologies & analysis of products on the market, including the reception by customers of these products.

  23. Information Technology Case Studies (1999- updated annually)
    Original case studies from Idea Group Publishing Business covering many aspects of IT.

  1. ABI/INFORM (1970 -current, updated monthly)
    A worldwide management, business and information technology database indexing and abstracting over 1,400 business and economics journals, magazines and trade publications. 50% full-text articles. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  2. Australian Digital Theses Program
    "The aim of the ADT project is to create a national collaborative distributed database of digitised theses produced at Australian Universities.The ADT database provides access to PhD and Masters by Research theses only." Their Digital Theses Collections page is also useful.

  3. Biological Abstracts (1969 - current, updated weekly)
    An international database on biology, clinical and experimental medicine, biochemistry and biotechnology. It indexes and abstracts articles in 6,500 serials from over 100 countries and is produced in the United States by BIOSIS. It uses OVID software.   4. Ebsco Host (coverage varies)
    A set of 19 databases from Ebsco Publishing - mostly full-text periodical collections, with an emphasis on peer-reviewed journals.

  5. Emerald (coverage varies, updated monthly)
    Provides access to the full-text of over 100 journals published by the MCB University Press. All journals are peer reviewed & are aimed at both academic researchers & practitioners.   6. Engineering Village (1970 - current, updated weekly)
    Over 16,000 engineering web sites; access to technical databases and engineering libraries, a full text engineering management journal, engineering library Internet projects, technical catalogs and Compendex. 

  7. Ingenta ( free public access)
    Is a global research gateway providing a free online search service of published content from reliable research sources. It offers access to nearly 6,000 electronic full-text titles and millions of articles from the world's leading scholarly and professional publications.

  8. Journal Citation Reports (JCR) (1999-, updated annually)
    JCR provides Journal Impact Factor information, & is published in two editions, covering journals in the areas of science & technology, & the social sciences each contains the previous year’s publication data, accumulating & tabulating citation & article counts.   9. JSTOR (coverage varies)
    An archive of scholarly journal literature, with over 230 digitised full-text journals. Most journals begin from the first issue published. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  10. Medline (1966 -, updated monthly)
    Produced by the US National Library of Medicine, it is widely recognized as a premier source for bibliographic coverage of biomedical literature from over 4,600 journals. It uses OVID software. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  11. NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS) (free public access)
    Allows users to search the many different abstract and technical report servers maintained by various NASA centers and programs. Specifically, it is a unified interface to many separate WAIS servers.

  12. Patent Databases (free public access)
    An annotated bibliography and full-text of patent databases available on the Internet (both free and some fee-based) from international organizations such as WIOP (World Intellectual Property Organization) and major industrial countries. 

  13. Proquest (1971-current, full-text from 1987)
    Covers more than 8,500 titles, about 50% full-text, in various databases covering general science & technology, engineering, social science, medical, & business. The databases can be searched individually or simultaneously.

  14. Science Direct (coverage varies)
    Covers 1800 journals primarily in the Sciences, but also includes titles in business, economics, education, engineering, linguistics, management, marketing, sociology, etc.For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  15. Wiley InterScience - Journals (1997 - current)
    Covers the full -text of some 300 Wiley journals covering Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics, Physics, etc.

  16. World of Learning
    An international directory of universities, libraries, learned societies, research institutions, museums, & art galleries.

New Zealand Databases

  1. Auckland Regional Council Library Database
    Covers mainly books & journal articles held by the ARC. Arcadia lists Auckland material held in the ARC catalogue.

  2. Index New Zealand: INNZ (1987 -, updated daily)
    Indexes nearly 300 NZ journals & newspapers & some South Pacific journals. It is the key NZ database for social sciences, arts, humanities & general interest material.

  3. Kompass (Current year only)
    Kompass is an international business directory. It contains information on a company's executives, brief financials, branches, localities, a list of products and services, and trade and brand names. Only available from a standalone workstation on Level M in the General Library.

  4. Newzindex (1985-, updated daily)
    Contains indexed records of articles from many NZ key news & business publications.

  5. NewzText (coverage varies, updated daily)
    Contains the full text of many of N

  6. NZ Science (coverage varies)
    A comprehensive index of NZ Science, provided by The Crown Research Institutes (CRIs, previously the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, DSIR) & the Royal Society of New Zealand. For more information see the Helpsheet on the database’s connect page.

  7. Te Puna (updated daily)
    This includes the National Bibliographic Database with over 10 million records for New Zealand and overseas resources, and their New Zealand holding libraries; Index New Zealand (journal index); and He Puna Kupu Maori, a Maori thesaurus.

  8. Voyager
    Voyager is the University of Auckland Library's catalogue of materials, and contains over 1.6 million entries. Use it to locate the call numbers for books, journals, serials, newspapers, conference proceedings, theses, videos, computer files, and videos.For more information see the Tutorial on Voyager’s connect page.
