Hawaiian Ecosystems at Risk (HEAR) Project

IUCN : The World Conservation Union

Species 2000

Zoological Record - Systematic Thesaurus

The Systematic Thesaurus compiled by Thompson Scientific comprises around 7,000 taxonomic names of family level and above arranged phylogenetically in a hierarchical classification scheme representing the various taxonomic groups of the animal kingdom. It is not intended to be authoritative, but is based on established, standard reference works and accepted classification schemes. Sections of the hierarchy covering groups whose taxonomy is less stable are often not further subdivided, in order to maintain consistency in placement of taxa. The list also includes extinct fossil forms.

European Molecular Biology Laboratory

Human Genome Resources
This Internet resource is maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI, administrators of PubMed and GenBank) primarily as a central access point to valuable database resources for human genome researchers. The centerpiece of the opening page, The Genome at a Glance, is a diagram of the 24 human chromosomes with links to additional information on each chromosome. Each chromosome page summarizes that chromosome's sequencing progress and provides further links to disease genes, STS (sequence tagged site) maps, and chromosome alterations associated with cancers.

National Human Genome Research Institute

National Information Resource on Ethics and Human Genetics
A bibliographic database containing records related to the study of ethics and human genetics. Items are held at the National Reference Center for Bioethics Literature.

Primer on Molecular Genetics

Ribosomal Database Project - II

GRIN Taxonomy
The Germplasm Resources Information Network (GRIN) taxonomic data provides the structure and nomenclature for the accessions of the United States' National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS). Many plants (37,000 taxa, 14,000 genera) are included in GRIN taxonomy, especially economic plants.

HortNET
An internet based information and communication service especially designed for the horticulture industry. International Plant Names Index

Plant Image Gallery
Created and maintained by Thomas Schoepke of the Institute of Pharmacy at Greifswald University, this site may prove useful to both botanists and biology students. Behind the straightforward interface is a database of some 2,000 high-quality images of plants, mainly from Europe, Costa Rica, Japan, and the Galapagos Islands. Users can browse the images by four geographic galleries or by plant family. Entries include the Latin name, whether the plant is native or cultivated, and photo location.

Database of Macromolecular Movements

Entrez
The WWW Entrez browser (provided by the National Center for Biotechnology Information) allows you to retrieve molecular biology data and bibliographic citations from the NCBI's integrated databases. Visible Human Project
This project is creating complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the male and female human body. The current phase of the project is collecting transverse CT, MRI and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers at one millimeter intervals. The long-term goal of the Visible Human Project is to produce a system of knowledge structures that will transparently link visual knowledge forms to symbolic knowledge formats such as the names of body parts.
