Loan Periods and Renewals

Books :

  • Both staff and students based at the Leigh Laboratory are allowed long term loans, until the item is required by another patron. Staff and students not based at Leigh may only borrow items if the Leigh Library is the sole holding location for the University. They may then borrow books for 60 days (unless reserved by another user). They may apply for these items through the Inter-Campus Library Delivery Service (ICLDS) by going to the Voyager record and using the 'Request' button at the top of the page. If this service is not functioning, they may also use the ICLDS online form.
  • Books can be renewed twice unless reserved by another person.
  • Books recalled by another user must be returned within 24 hours.

Journals

  • Staff and students based at the Leigh Laboratory are allowed to borrow journals until they are required by another patron.
  • Journals are not available for loan to staff and students not based at Leigh (except for some seven day loans for staff and post-graduates).
  • Journals are not allowed to leave the Leigh Marine Lab campus.
  • Articles may be requested from titles held at other libraries through the Inter-Campus Library Delivery Service (ICLDS) via Voyager or by using the online form.

Theses

  • Undergraduates, graduate students and staff are allowed to issue items for 60 days
  • Theses can be renewed twice unless reserved by another person.
  • Theses recalled by another user must be returned within 24 hours.

Leigh patrons wishing to renew issued material must bring the item(s) into the Library, along with their ID card, on or just before the date stamped in the item. Leigh personnel may renew items borrowed from the City Campus Libraries via their Patron record on the Voyager catalogue. Items borrowed from Leigh by patrons not based at Leigh may be renewed in the same way.

Penalties for the Late Return or Loss of Library Material Collection

The Library imposes fines for the late return of any material. The Library is under no obligation to notify borrowers when books are overdue, and a fine will still be charged when the books are returned after the date stamped, even though no notice has been received.

Charges

Overdue items : 25c per day
Overdue items recalled for other users : $3.00 per day
Lost books : Replacement cost, plus overdue fine, recall fine (where applicable) and administration fee
  • Debtors invoices are paid at the University Cashier.
Unless fines are paid promptly, any of the following penalties may be imposed :
    • withdrawal of borrowing privileges
    • refusal of re-enrolment
    • disqualification from graduation
