1.1. Where is the library?

The Engineering Library is located on the 4th floor of the Faculty of Engineering at 20 Symonds Street near the corner of Grafton Road.  Enter at the main Symonds Street entrance, turn left and follow the library signs. For information, go to the Front Desk which you will see upon entry.

1.4. Who can use the library?

The Engineering Library's primary responsibility is to the staff and students of the University of Auckland but members of the public may consult our books and journals collections and use the photocopying facilities. It may be possible to become an associate member with undergraduate privileges by paying a library membership fee.

1.5. How do I find a book or a journal in the library?

Books are shelved according to LC (Library of Congress Classification) call number on Level 4 of the library. Journals are shelved alphabetically by title on Level 3 of the library.  Recently acquired  journals are displayed in the Current Serials Display area.

To find a book's call number or a journal's correct title consult the library's online catalogue Library Search . ICLDS (Inter-Campus Library Delivery Service) enables you to request available books, journal articles and other items located in a University of Auckland library on another campus. For material not held at the University, use InterLibrary Loan.

1.6. How many people work in the library?

In addition to 9 permanent library staff, the library relies on casual employees the numbers of which vary from year to year.

1.7. Who is the librarian that can help me with... ?

Although all library staff answer reference enquiries, each has different responsibilities. For expert help you can ask to see a Subject Librarian who is dedicated to answering questions about your subject.

1.8. Can I make an appointment if a librarian is not available at the Reference Desk?

Yes. Any librarian will be happy to help, or you may make an appointment with the Subject Librarians for more in depth queries.

1.9. Where are the group study rooms? Can I make a reservation for one?

There are four group study rooms available at the Engineering Library. These rooms may be booked at the front desk for a maximum of 2 hours per day.

1.10. Where are the nearest toilets?

There are men's and women's toilets located on Level 3 of the Library.

1.11. Contributions or suggestions from you

Students, staff or the general public are encouraged to place suggestions online.
