FINDING MATERIAL

Basic Information : 

Use the Reference Collection, located on shelves near the front of the Library, to find basic and background information. You will find the Dictionary of Art and the Encyclopedia of World Art in the Reference Collection.

Books : On Stacks 1-11

Books in the Fine Arts Library are arranged according to a modified version of the Dewey Decimal Classification system. There are 3 sequences: 

• The main sequence is shelved on Stacks 1-7 (Yellow tags) 
• Books on individual artists (759) are shelved on Stacks 8-10 (Red tags) 
• Large books (q) and (f) are shelved on Stack 11 (Green Tag) 

To find the call numbers of the book you want use Voyager. 

Fine Arts Short Loan Collection : Behind the Desk 

Books in high demand are kept in the Short Loan Collection. To find out if the book you want is on Short Loan use Voyager. 

Serials : On Stacks 12-14 (Blue tags) 

• Serials in the Fine Arts Library are arranged alphabetically by title. 
• The latest and unbound issues are on Stack 10, while the bound issues are shelved on Stacks 11-14. 
• To find out if the Library has a particular serial title use Voyager. 
• To find articles on certain artists or subjects use Art Full Text, Art Bibliographies Modern, BHA, or INZART: Index to New Zealand Art.
