Microsoft Student Advantage - Office 365
Under the Microsoft Campus Agreement Student Advantage programme with the University of Auckland, students are entitled to download Office 365 for free on up to five personal devices (PCs, Macs, tablets and phones).
Eligibility to use Office 365
All students currently enrolled at the University of Auckland are eligible. This offering is available only to students and staff enrolled as students at the University of Auckland. University of Auckland staff and Alumni are not eligible for Office 365. Software available for University of Auckland staff.
Length of entitlement
Entitlement is valid while you are an enrolled student at the University of Auckland. The software will deactivate when you are no longer enrolled at the University. For more information refer to enrolment end dates. If you wish to continue to use the software after your access expires, you will need to purchase an Office 365 subscription.
You do not have to be connected to the internet all the time to use Office 365. To maintain access to Office 365 you must connect to the internet at least once every 30 days. Connecting to the internet allows Microsoft to check your entitlement. If you don’t connect within 30 days, Office 365 goes into “reduced functionality mode” , ie, Office 365 applications remain installed but you can only view and print documents. All features for editing or creating new documents are disabled and you will receive a message stating that the product has been de-activated.

Installing Office 365
Download Office 365 from the Microsoft Portal. Please read the installation instructions for Office 365 before accessing the Microsoft Portal.
The Office 365 file is 1GB. Download speeds off campus may vary and can be influenced by your computer configuration and settings, the speed of your connection to the Internet, how much traffic there is to the Microsoft Portal site at the same time you are trying to access it or the load on the overall network at your Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you choose to download on campus this will count against your monthly data allowance.
Using previous versions of Office with Office 365
Office 365 will install alongside your current Office installation. See Upgrading to Office 365. If you already have a full version of Office installed then you may not need to install Office 365. Office 365 will only be available to you while you are an enrolled student at the University of Auckland, refer to length of entitlement.
Customising Office 365
There is no customisation available in the Office 365 installation, you cannot install individual applications (Word, Excel etc) separately. Office 365 is offered as a package of applications for a faster download and installation. Once you have installed Office 365, you can remove the shortcuts to individual applications that you do not need but you cannot uninstall them.
