Information for Students


We can help you to effectively find information and evaluate it. There are all sorts of printed and electronic guides, seminars, courses and tours that the Library offers to help you build and expand your information literacy skills.

You can go to the Library Workshops page on the Library website to find out what library workshops are on offer and book a session. Alternatively, you can contact a Subject Librarian, to find out what library workshops are available in your subject areas. The Library Literacy Programme

Subject Librarians will introduce you to the resources and search strategies that are most appropriate for your assignments, topics, and levels of expertise. Most often, sessions combine demonstrations of electronic resources, discussions of search strategies, and hands-on practice. The programme includes: 

  • Orientation tours for new students 
    Library offers library tours in the first few weeks of the first semester. Please contact each subject specific library for details.
  • Library workshops on Library Search and The Catalogue  
    Courses on making the most of the full functionality of our online catalogue.
  • Using electronic indexes to find articles 
    Courses and seminars on using a particular database or a selection of databases appropriate to a specific subject area.
  • Subject and course related library workshops & seminars 
    Library workshops and seminars can be tailored to focus on a particular subject area for project students and graduate students. 
     
  • Library workshops on Internet resources
    How to Master Google Scholar & Google workshop for students and staff.
  • Foundation Studies classes
    Special sessions are presented throughout the year to a variety of groups such as ESOL and New Start.
     
  • Lectures 
    Presentations on library resources and services are given at lectures when specifically requested by teaching staff.
