ENDNOTE - How to get EndNote X5

The current version of EndNote available at the University of Auckland is Version X5. EndNote is installed on the majority of University computers; if for any reason EndNote is not installed on a computer you are using, please contact the computer support person for your department/faculty. Find out the system and hardware requirements from the EndNote website

The current licence of Endnote allows for current students and staff of the University of Auckland to install a copy on their home computer for course work or research. This must be removed once your study or work at the University of Auckland has ceased.

Endnote X5 Installation Information

Before you upgrade, please uninstall any earlier versions of Endnote and back up any existing EndNote libraries and save any styles or filters you have created or edited.

To backup a Library in EndNote: Open the Library in EndNote and From the File menu, select Save a Copy. Use the file dialog box to select where you want to save your back-up copy.

To uninstall an earlier version of EndNote: From the Windows Start Menu, select Control Panel. Select Add or Remove Programs (or Programs and Features in Windows 7) to see the list of currently installed programs, select Endnote version and click the Remove button (or Uninstall in Windows 7).

To download EndNote X5: please click on the Download Endnote X5 link below. Please read and accept the licence agreement and then you will be asked for your University of Auckland username and password. An EndNote X5 download link has been provided for both Mac and Windows. Please select the appropriate link for your operating system (Win = Windows; Mac = Mac).

IMPORTANT:
Windows Users: Please be aware that you must extract ALL files from the zipped files first and then run the .msi file from where you have saved the extracted files. If you are asked for a licence or product key at any stage it means you have not extracted all the files.

Mac Users: For a successful download we recommend the use of Firefox as your browser. If possible, please use a direct Internet connection (rather than Wireless) as this should ensure a faster download speed.

Instructions: It is recommended that you read the EndNote Download Installation Guide provided with the EndNote X5 download before beginning the install. The instructions will take you through a step by step guide to the download process and ensure you load all required files.
