Use of Computers in University of Auckland Libraries

Research and learning focus
Library computers are provided to support academic research and learning, not for business or personal use. (Express workstations are available on all levels in the Kate Edger Information Commons and in the Grafton Information Commons for recreational e-mail and Internet browsing). 

University statutes, Policies and Guidelines
Everyone using computers in University of Auckland libraries should be aware of, and adhere to, the IT Acceptable Use Policy Version 1.0, http://www.security.auckland.ac.nz/ICTAcceptableUsePolicy.htm and other applicable University of Auckland Statutes, Policies and Guidelines. http://www.security.auckland.ac.nz/images/ICTStatute2007.pdf


Who can use computers?
Computers are available on a first come first served basis. 

Logging on:
An individual user must only be logged on to one computer at a time. 

Logging off:
Users must log off from the computer when they have finished. Do not turn off any computers. 

Time limits on usage:
There are normally no time limits on using library computers, but during periods of high demand, library staff may ask users to make the computer available within 15 minutes if their activity is not accessing library resources or course related. 

Reservation of computers:
Computers may not be reserved through the leaving of personal belongings or signs. Users will be automatically logged off after 15 minutes of inactivity. 

Health and safety:
Prolonged use of computers may be injurious to your health. Users should be aware of occupational overuse syndrome and know how to avoid it.
