Reserving Items

It is possible to book individual items up to one week ahead. This is recommended at peak times such as towards the end of a semester, or when an item is being studied by a class.

NOTE: When three or more copies of an item are held, the AV Library is unable to take bookings.

Video Cassette Formats

VHS videocassettes come in three formats:
  • PAL (New Zealand, Australia and most of Western Europe)
  • NTSC (Japan and the US)
  • SECAM (France, China and Eastern Europe)
All the video players in the Library can play PAL and NTSC videocassettes. The AV Library no longer hs SECAM video playing facilities. SECAM videotapes will play on other videoplayers but in black and white only.

Library Services

Library tutorials take place on an informal, one-on-one basis. Anyone wishing to be shown how to access the collections, or to use the equipment, is free to approach the staff at any time for personal assistance. In our experience, this approach is more useful for patrons than offering regularly scheduled tours.
